Charlene Ruto lobbies youth to back GBV prevention campaign

First Daughter Charlene Ruto, on Friday paid a courtesy call on Vihiga Deputy Governor Wilberforce Kitiezo on a tour of the county to champion the fight against gender-based violence (GBV).

Her campaign, running under the slogan “Tuko Sauti, Tuko Safe”, aims to empower young people to speak out and take action against GBV in their communities.

During the discussions at the Deputy Governor’s office, Charlene emphasised the need to amplify the voices of young people who are often affected by or witness cases of GBV but lack platforms to express themselves.

Deputy Governor Kitiezo commended her efforts and affirmed the county’s commitment to supporting initiatives that address Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). He encouraged the First Daughter to collaborate with the Vihiga Students Network (VISNET) to help sensitize students across the county on GBV-related issues.

“Your work is important in shaping a society that is safe for our youth,” Kitiezo said, noting that partnerships with youth groups would help strengthen awareness and prevention efforts.

After the meeting, Charlene proceeded to Kaimosi University, where she continued to spread her message on the need for young people to actively participate in ending GBV and creating safer spaces within learning institutions and communities.

The First Daughter’s visit marks a significant step in ongoing national efforts to involve youth in advocacy and social transformation.
