Community Sensitized on Upcoming ICT Hub in Egetuki, Kisii County

Residents of Egetuki in Gucha Sub-County, Kisii County, have been sensitized on the government’s plan to establish an ICT hub in the area. The awareness forum, held during a community baraza, aimed to educate locals on the benefits of digital access and the role of technology in economic empowerment.

The session was led by Gucha Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Esther Kung’u, alongside local government officials and other key stakeholders.

Addressing the gathering, DCC Kung’u emphasized the government’s commitment to bridging the digital divide by bringing essential ICT services closer to the people.

The government is working towards ensuring that all citizens can conveniently access digital services without traveling long distances. This initiative will help bring opportunities right to the community’s doorstep,” she stated.

During the baraza, community members were briefed on the purpose and expected benefits of the ICT hub once established. The hub will provide access to internet connectivity, digital skills training, and e-government services, empowering residents, especially youth and small business owners, to leverage technology for growth and innovation.

The sensitization event is part of the government’s broader plan to set up 1,450 ICT hubs across the country, one in each ward, to promote digital literacy and economic empowerment.

Government officials assured the community that stakeholder engagement will continue to ensure a smooth rollout of the project. The initiative is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing education, entrepreneurship, and access to government services, contributing to Kenya’s overall digital transformation.

As similar projects continue across the country, local leaders urged residents to stay informed, participate in ICT training opportunities, and prepare to embrace digital solutions that will enhance their daily lives.
