Contractors urged to fastrack construction of ESP markets in Kericho

Contractors who are constructing the Economic Stimulus projects ESP flagship projects, the markets, affordable housing projects (AHP), and other projects in Kericho County have been urged to fast-track the works in order to beat the deadline for completing the projects.

Speaking during the National Government Development County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee Meeting (NGD-CICMC), the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Mr Anthony Kirui in the County Commissioner’s Office, who represented the County Commissioner Mr Gilbert Kitiyo, urged Contractors to live up to the contractual terms signed before the commencement of the works and deliver the projects in good time to allow the Kenyans to access services and benefit from the projects.

Mr Kirui at the same time called on various heads of departments (HODs) to work as a team while implementing government projects and in their normal day-to-day discharge of government Service delivery to wananchi.

Speaking at the same function the Housing officer Ms Annabel Mwangi Wangare said that the Construction of Chesinende, Sosiot and Kapkatet markets was at 23 percent, 35 percent and 63 percent respectively. She said that the construction of Lelu market in Fortenan in Kipkelion West was yet to start.

Wangare told the meeting that the construction of the markets was ongoing but at a slower pace than expected. She attributed the slow pace to poor mobilisation of materials and unskilled human labour to take the construction to the required pace and speed.

Mr Kirui and the Director of Delivery Unit Martin Rotich called on the officer to urgently constitute a meeting where the contractors who are doing the four markets will attend in person in order to iron out the bottle necks slowing down the construction of the markets.

During the meeting the County Director of Education (CDE) Mr Julius Ngoneshi said that construction of 300 new classrooms for junior secondary schools (JSS) in the County was ongoing and was at various levels of completion.
