County Commissioner calls for responsible festive celebrations

Bungoma County Commissioner Mr Thomas Sankei is calling on the area residents to celebrate the oncoming Christmas season responsibly.

He asked the residents to avoid cases of overindulgence in the festivities that may make them forget their responsibilities in society.

Mr Sankei told parents to also set aside enough funds for the school fees of their children to avoid interruption of the learning of their children when they report to school in January.

He was speaking on Friday at St Peter’s Sang’alo Secondary School in Bungoma South, during celebrations to mark this year’s Jamhuri Day.

The CC appealed to parents and guardians to safeguard school-going girls during this festive period to counter the rising cases of teenage pregnancies in the county.

“Take good care of our girls so that when they go back to school in January, we do not record cases of teenage pregnancy. We are not doing well as a county in this area,” he said.

Mr Sankei cautioned locals against allowing politicians to incite them into acts that undermine peace of the area and instead concentrate on steering the area to greater heights of development.

He commended leaders for embracing teamwork, noting that collaboration between the National Government administration and the County Government was improving service delivery to the residents.

The Governor Bungoma County Kenneth Lusaka assured residents that his administration was making efforts to complete long-stalled development projects and that contractors had been redeployed to sites where construction works had stalled.

He told residents to be wary of people who were asking for funds from innocent people promising to get them jobs from the county government.

Kanduyi Member of Parliament (M.P.) John Makali, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa and residents from various parts of the county attended the event.
