County government is prohibiting and preventing its citizens from infections

Close to 105,000 children in Nandi County have been targeted for Measles and Typhoid vaccination campaigns, according to Chief Executive Committee Member for Health Dr. Angeline Kirui.

Addressing the health stakeholders during a sensitization forum at Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex, Kirui said the campaign to kick off on 5th July 2025 will target children between 9 months and 14 years.

She said the government rolled out the campaign after an upsurge of Typhoid and Measles cases across the country between the years 2021 and 2024.

Dr. Kirui asked the locals to disregard rumors that the vaccines are harmful to children’s health, maintaining that the government, through vaccination bodies, has tested the vaccines and proved that they are safe and secure.

“Our government wants healthy children, and that is why these vaccines have passed all necessary tests and proved to be safe for our children,” she said.

She pleaded with the locals to avail their children for vaccination between 5th to 10th July being vaccination target dates.

The CECM said the schools cooperate and avail children in Kindergarten and Grade Four for vaccination during campaign periods.

She however called on the general public to adopt proper health and sanitation safety measures to counter the spread of diseases, for instance, typhoid.

Dr. Kirui emphasized the use of clean and treated water and the washing of hands, especially among the younger population, so as to promote a healthier society.

“Please introduce early the culture of regular handwashing in order to promote healthier practices among our children,” she insisted.

This comes a day after the National Government through the Ministry of Health, launched the campaign to curb the spread of targeted communicable diseases across 47 counties.
