CS launches strategic plan 2024-2028 for OUK

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has officially launched the Strategic Plan 2024-2028 for Open University of Kenya (OUK).

While launching the plan at Konza Techno-City on Friday, Ogamba said that it provides a clear path for advancing access to technology-driven and high-quality education for Kenyans.

The CS lauded the university management for developing the plan, observing that it will also be used as a blueprint that will strengthen innovation, partnerships and sustain growth of the university.

“This plan sets a clear path to advancing accessible, technology-driven, and high-quality education for all Kenyans. I commend the university council and the management for developing a focused and forward-looking blueprint that will strengthen innovation and partnerships and sustain growth,” said Ogamba who presided over the 2nd graduation ceremony of the university on Friday.

During the occasion, 200 graduates were awarded certificates across various fields including business and economics, education, entrepreneurship, economics and statistics, cybersecurity, and digital forensics and data science, among others.

The CS reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthen OUK to be a premier digital-learning hub-an institution designed to offer education and reach the most marginalised communities in the country.

On his part, the University Chancellor Dr James Mwangi encouraged Kenyans to take advantage of OUK’s flexible online learning model, noting that its digital-first system allows learners to study from anywhere, at their own comfort.

Speaking at the same event, Makueni County Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili appealed to the residents of Makueni and Machakos to register and learn and get enlightened besides getting certificates to help develop their areas.

Mulili pointed out that the Open University of Kenya offers quality education saying working people should also take the opportunity as you learn without affecting your duties.

“I urge the people of Makueni, Kitui and Machakos to register and learn here. There is quality learning and lecturers are serious in executing their duties. Even on the list of those who graduated today, there are few people from this area,” Mulili observed.

Also, Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi echoed the same sentiments and emphasized the need to boost enrolment from the region.
