Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen directed National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) countrywide to rebuild trust with citizens by demonstrating integrity, accountability and proactive leadership.
Addressing County Commissioners, Officers Commanding Police Stations, Chiefs and their assistants during a Jukwaa la Usalama forum in Mbale, Vihiga county, Murkomen urged the grassroots administrators to create strong networks of collaboration and deliver effective services to the people.
“You must build synergies and demonstrate inclusive leadership. If citizens don’t trust your management of public affairs, they will not even report cases of misconduct,” he warned.
The CS stressed that government officials must act on every report from citizens, restore confidence in public offices and remain honest custodians of their authority.
He further urged all civil servants to take full advantage of the numerous government-sponsored trainings, workshops and conferences, saying this continuous learning process enhances employee performance and motivation, which ultimately leads to better service delivery.
“Government training is not optional. You have to be equipped with essential skills and become knowledgeable, so that you add value to state policies and effectively serve the people,” Murkomen stated.
At the same time, the CS instructed the administrators to hold regular barazas, aimed at educating citizens on how to report cases of defilement, gender-based violence, and other societal vices.
