Some 450 students shortlisted for the Elimu scholarship programme in all the five sub counties of Vihiga County are currently undertaking interviews to determine whether they will benefit or not.
The County Director of Education (CDE), Joyce Chesang confirmed that at the end of the interview process tomorrow, 95 beneficiaries will be selected; 49 females and 46 males.
“The total number of applicants for the Elimu scholarship programme in Vihiga County was 2,231 out of which we shortlisted 450,” she said adding the interview committee will be visiting the shortlisted applicant’s homes to ascertain whether they meet the selection requirements.
“The criteria used to select the beneficiaries are vulnerability like in the case with orphans and other needy children. Besides the beneficiaries must have attained five to eight points in the curriculum Based Education (CBE) and must have applied for the scholarship,” said Chesang, adding that five percent of beneficiaries must be learners with special needs.
The CDE emphasized on 100 percent transition from Junior to Senior Secondary school calling on parents and guardians to ensure that all students report to school from January 13,2026.
