Jua Kali artisans in Embu Town from the Luo Nyanza community have appealed for a giant screen to be mounted at Moi Stadium to enable them to follow the burial of former Prime Minister and ODM leader Raila Odinga on Sunday.
The artisans, most of whom are mechanics, said they had wished to travel to Nyanza for the burial but were unable to do so due to high costs. They therefore requested the installation of a public screen to allow them to bid farewell remotely to a man they described as a champion of democracy, constitutionalism, justice, and equity.
Led by their chairman, Rollingstone Njuki, the group appealed to leaders, including Governor Cecily Mbarire and Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, to help realize their wish.
“Given that most of us cannot attend the burial physically, we kindly ask our leaders to give us an opportunity to pay our tributes by following the proceedings live from here,” said Joshua Obong’o.
They also paid glowing tributes to “Baba,” praising his statesmanship, forthrightness, and exemplary leadership that inspired generations.
“We will dearly miss him, but his memory and spirit will live on through the values he championed—good governance, justice, and unity,” said John Ouma.
