Family appeal for help after fire burned 92-year-old grandmother’s house

A family from Chambiti village in Vihiga county is appealing for help after a fire razed down their 92-year-old grandmother’s house.

Speaking to the press at their home, one of the relatives Damary Ayesa Ndolo confirmed that the inferno burned down the house of their 92-year-old matriarch destroying all the property and leaving her with only the clothes she was wearing.

Ayesa is appealing to well-wishers to come to the rescue of the old woman by donating whatever they have including clothes and help the family put up another house for her.

She said she heard screams from one of the woman’s grandsons, Moses Embego at around 1a.m. and they rushed to the scene.

She added that she found the house already in flames and they only managed to rescue the old woman but all her property was burnt to ashes.

She said that the exact cause of the blaze has not been established but there were reports that some of the old woman’s grandchildren had lit fire at around 6.00 p.m. to chase away bees which had invaded the home.

The family was grateful to God for saving the life of the matriarch saying that property can be bought or replaced but someone’s life cannot.
