Farmers and traders in Kojong’a area in Narok East have decried the poor state of the road network lamenting that it is causing them heavy losses since they are not able to take their farm produce to the market on time.
The farmers complained that accessing Kojong’a-Ntulele road has remained a major challenge and thus called upon the County government to take advantage of the current dry spell and repair the roads.
A local trader, Jeremiah Punyua, said that the area is an agriculturally rich zone and if the roads are left unattended to then they will have nothing to celebrate about as they will continue to incur more losses.
He said that farming is a good venture which needs all stakeholders to play their roles well for the main goal of delivering quality agricultural produce to consumers to be achieved and thus urged the County government to act fast before the start of the long rains which begins in the month of March.
Joseph Njuguna, a farmer, said that business in the area comes to a standstill and they watch their farm produce including potatoes, carrots among other vegetables rot in their farms and insisted on the need for the concerned authorities to prioritise improving the road network to ease movement.
By doing so, Njuguna says that it will not only benefit the farmers but also open up the area for other development activities and the locals will have ease of access to other social amenities such as schools, hospitals, and playgrounds, among others.
Narok East MP, Ken Kiloku acknowledged the national government’s effort in repairing roads under its jurisdiction and urged the county government to emulate the same all for the benefit of the locals.
