‎Gachagua’s ‎DCP Suffers set back in Embu

By S, KNA

‎‎Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s, Democracy for Change Party (DCP) has suffered a setback in Mbeere North after its frontrunner in the upcoming by-election Duncan Mbui quit the party over what he termed as betrayal.

‎ ‎This was after the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s party decided to drop Mbui and instead support the candidate fronted by the Democratic Party (DP).

‎ ‎Consequently, Mbui who is also Evurore Ward MCA has secured nomination ticket from former CS and Economic Advisor to the President, Moses Kuria’s Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party.

‎ ‎Mbui, who had recently hinted at an independent bid, will now run as the official CCK candidate, effectively replacing DCP’s presence on the ballot.

‎ ‎The formal announcement came on Tuesday during a public rally in Ishiara Market where CCK Party Leader Moses Kuria presented Mbui with the party nomination certificate.

‎ ‎Mbui accused DCP of shortchanging him and attempting to kill his political ambition by allowing some political leaders from the area dictate the choice of opposition candidate.

‎ ‎Mbui who has been traversing the whole area popularizing DCP said he had come to the conclusion that the party was being run as a members’ club being controlled by a few individuals instead of allowing party democracy to thrive.

‎ ‎Kuria called on voters to reject clan-based politics that had made the area lag behind in terms of development by failing to elect leaders based on their ability to deliver.

‎ ‎He urged constituents to instead evaluate candidates based on their policies and ideologies, while exuding confidence that Mbui will clinch the seat.

‎ ‎He promised to energize Mbui’s campaign, saying he was the best bet for the region in spurring development.

‎ ‎The move by DCP to drop Mbui has rattled some leaders including Manyatta MP Gitonga who is a close ally of Gachagua, who vowed to continue supporting him despite jumping ship.

‎ ‎”I believe in fairness and I will stand with Mbui who has invested heavily in our party and popularized it in the area,” he said.
