The Mayor of Gersthofen, Germany, Michael Wörle, is set to lead a high-level delegation, including the renowned Jugge Orchestra, on a three-day official visit to Kisumu County from Tuesday, November 4 to Thursday, November 6, 2025.
The visit marks a significant milestone in the partnership between the County Government of Kisumu and the City of Gersthofen, following the signing of a Strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in November last year.
Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o said the collaboration aims to foster economic growth, environmental sustainability, and skills development across the county.
“This partnership with Gersthofen reflects our shared vision of building sustainable cities driven by innovation, culture, and inclusive development,” said Prof. Nyong’o.
He noted that the engagement will open new opportunities in investment, tourism, and technical training to empower young people and enhance Kisumu’s global visibility.
The MoU outlines joint efforts to promote renewable energy, strengthen conservation programs, and build the capacity of technical and vocational institutions to produce job-ready graduates.
During the visit, Mayor Wörle and his delegation will pay a courtesy call on Governor Nyong’o before officially opening the German Language Corner at the Kisumu County Public Library. The space aims to promote cultural exchange and language learning among local youth.
The Jugge Orchestra will host a tribute performance at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in honor of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, followed by a public concert at the Mama Grace Onyango Social Hall, featuring the Migosi Primary School Band and the Mama Grace Onyango Hall Rhumba Band.
The delegation will conclude their visit with a tour of the Chulaimbo Water Project Site before departing Kisumu on Thursday evening.
Prof. Nyong’o emphasized that Kisumu continues to strengthen its international ties through cultural diplomacy, adding that such partnerships position the lakeside city as a regional hub for innovation, trade, and sustainable development.
“Our friendship with Gersthofen is a bridge connecting our people, cultures, and shared aspirations,” he said.
