Golweyn distributes CBE textbooks to vulnerable Wajir learners

Golweyn Women and Youth Empowerment Initiative Organization has distributed Competency-Based Education (CBE) textbooks to learners in Grades 7, 8 and 9 at Furqan Integrated School and Starehe Junior Academy in Wajir County, targeting orphaned and other vulnerable children.

The textbooks, provided under the organization’s Orphans Wing, cover all subjects under the new syllabus and are approved by the Ministry of Education.

The initiative aims to support learners who lack access to essential learning materials following schools reopening for the 2026 academic year.

Speaking to the press, Golweyn Organization Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Halima Ahmed said the intervention was prompted by the prolonged drought that has affected livelihoods in the region.

“Most parents in Wajir County are pastoralists whose sources of income have been severely disrupted by drought, making it difficult for them to buy textbooks for their children,” Mrs. Ahmed said.

She added that the organization seeks to ensure equal access to education for vulnerable learners.

“Our goal is to ensure that no child is left behind due to circumstances beyond their control. By providing these books, we are giving vulnerable learners a fair chance to learn and succeed,” she said.

Ahmed said Golweyn Women and Youth Empowerment Initiative Organization will continue to support education initiatives in Wajir County as part of its broader mandate to promote equitable access to quality education.
