The government plans to spend Sh2.1 billion to light up homes in Homabay County, Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Energy and Petroleum Opiyo Wandayi has said.
The CS said the exercise dubbed ‘last mile connectivity’ will cover about 25,000 households in the county.
“No part of Kenya should remain behind. No single part of the country should be forgotten,” the CS said when he addressed residents of Thim village in Kojwach ward, Kabondo Kasipul constituency, one of the villages where the programme was launched.
Earlier in the day the CS had launched last-mile connectivity at Oriang’ village in the constituency
He said according to President William Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), the citizens of Thim village, Sengre, and Kojwach are part of that plan.
While flagging off the programme at Thim, the CS said it is the president’s plan to have every village and every home connected to the national grid, saying that it is his utmost duty as the Energy CS to make this happen.
He said he had instructed Ministry officials and officials from the Kenya Power to ensure that the project is complete by February 2026.
“Homa Bay County, according to the directive of the president, has been allocated Sh2.1 billion for the last mile connectivity,” he said, adding, “Out of the allocation, Kabondo Kasipul constituency was allocated Sh200 million to cover 2,000 households.”
