Government to construct over 8,000 housing units in Kericho

The National government under Affordable Housing Project targets to construct a total of 8480 housing units across the six sub-Counties in Kericho.

In Ainamoi Sub County, a total of 322 housing units is underway at Majengo Talai at a cost of shillings 778,211,897.70, and the construction is at 33 percent.

The Construction of another 756 housing units at Kericho Survey Camp in Ainamoi Sub County is underway as advertisements for the project are ready.

In a report to the Kericho County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee NGD-CICMC Meeting today, the Housing Officer Kericho, Ms Annabel Wangare said that 4000 housing units will be constructed at Chelimo, in Ainamoi Sub County; an advert for 272 under phase one is ready.

Ms Wangare in the report told the committee that another 1,134 housing units will be constructed at Kipsitet in Soin Sub County, an advert for construction of 300 housing units is ready for the site.  Another 1134 housing units will be constructed in Kipkelion town; in Kipkelion West the advert for 300 units is ready under phase 1.

In Londiani the government will construct 1134 units, and advertisements for 300 units are ready.

Meanwhile the construction of Markets under the Economic Stimulus Project (ESP) in the county is ongoing; in Bureti Sub County Kapkatet market is progressing at a cost of Sh 162,008,145 and it is at 69 percent completion.

Sosiot market is at 63 percent and is ongoing at a cost of Sh162,008,145; the Chesinende market is at 47 percent at a cost of Sh54,696,364; while the Fort tenant market is at 42 percent at the same cost respectively. Lelu is yet to commence and Sh55,149,836 has been allocated for the project.

The government also plans to construct a total of 3680 student hostels across the technical and vocational training institutions in Kericho, at Sigowet KMTC 580 units will be constructed, in Soin Sigowet sub-County, Kapkatet KMTC, Bureti, 580 units, at Kimasian TVC, Kipkelion East, 340 units will be built, at Kipsinende TVC, Kipkelion West, 340 units will be built.

Kericho Township TVC, Ainamoi sub-County, the institution will benefit in the construction of 580 units, Kabianga University in Belgut Sub County will get 580 units, with all the 3680 students’ units under evaluation stage.

Accordingly, the housing officer told the meeting that was chaired by the Ainamoi Sub County DCC Dr Kibe Maguta on behalf of the Kericho County Commissioner, CC, that plans are underway to build 340 students’ units at Bureti National Polytechnic and Belgut TVC respectively.

Meanwhile Dr Kibe Maguta who is acting as the Kericho CC told the various heads of departments to familiarise themselves with e-government, the new procurement rules and register all government projects due in the system.
