The National Government will spend Sh1.1 billion to tarmac a section of Emali-Ukia Road, Kibwezi West Member of Parliament (MP) Mwengi Mutuse has said.
Mutuse said the government has already identified a contractor namely Prime Quantifier Limited who would tarmac the first phase 1 that extends 20 kilometers.
While saying the road is a historic one, Mutuse observed that it would link Makueni to other counties like Kajiado, Machakos and Kitui and even to Tanzania for business people besides helping farmers transport their farm produce to markets.
“The government has already awarded the contract to Prime Quantifier Limited who will tarmac the road at Sh1.1 billion up to Matiliku town in the phase 1,” said Mutuse while addressing the media at Ndundune market on Tuesday when he brought the contractor to the ground for site hand over.
During the event, the MP assured Makueni residents that the tarmacking of the road would be completed within two years and that no politician would use it again to gain political mileage.
“I assure the residents of Kibwezi West and Makueni as whole, that once the works start, the road will be tarmacked until it is complete. I am privileged to be in the Budget Committee, I have seen enough money has been factored. I am confident this road will be constructed until it is complete,” he added.
Once the road is tarmacked, it will accelerate transport within the lower eastern region, especially for business people who come to collect fruits to go and sell in major towns across the country.
However, Mutuse noted that they only brought the contractor to hand over the site, but President William Ruto would officially come to launch the road soon.
Speaking at the same event, the National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah said that the residents of Kinyoo Settlement Scheme in Nzaui Subcounty would get title deeds when the President visits the area.
He lauded the government’s move of improving the infrastructure in the lower eastern region saying farmers and business people, besides residents, would now travel to other areas without hindrance.
“Once the road has been tarmacked, it will enhance transport efficiency for business people, farmers, residents and ensure access to health facilities, schools and markets within Makueni and beyond,” said Ichung’wah.
Among those who addressed the gathering included Members of Parliament (MP) Fabian Kyule Muli (Kangundo), Caleb Mule (Machakos), and Hillary Kosgei (Kipkelion) and Kajiado Woman Representative Lea Sankaire.
