Governor launches major water infrastructure projects to boost clean water access in Wote town

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr has launched critical infrastructure works aimed at improving water supply to Wote town and its environs.

Among infrastructure that he launched were the solarization of the Kamunyolo community water supply system with a 10 KW solar installation, equipping a 30,000 litre-per-hour borehole in Mwaani area and connecting it with 12.5 KW solar power system.

Also, installation of an 88 KW solar system to boost pumping water to Makueni Boys High School distribution tanks, construction and rehabilitation of 13.5 km distribution pipeline and supply and installation of bulk water meters.

“My administration is working round the clock to ensure sustainable and adequate clean water for Wote town, to meet demands of its rapidly growing urban population and boost investor confidence,” said Mutula while launching the projects on Wednesday.

The projects were funded by the national government through Tanathi Water Works Development Agency (TWWDA) in collaboration with the county government of Makueni.

The Mwaani borehole will inject an extra 30,000 litres per hour into the existing water supply network, while the Kamunyolo project will increase daily pumping hours from just 45 minutes to 7 hours respectively.

However, the governor did not disclose the amount of money that was spent on the projects.
