Migori Governor Dr. Ochilo Ayacko has assured the Migori business community that his administration will work closely with the national government to see the completion of the Marindi market.
Marindi market is one of the modern markets being done by the National government to provide an enabling environment where local business personnel and county residents can trade and buy goods.
Once completed, Marindi will be the largest market in Migori county serving traders by cushioning them from harsh sun, heavy rains and muddy grounds; an experience which has seen them continue to sell their commodities in makeshift stalls and open-air spaces.
Early this month, the market was affected by floods when the River Migori burst its banks, affecting half of the small businesses within the market.
Ochilo, who issued financial support to business personnel that lost their property to the recent floods, said that the completion of the new modern Marindi market will solve the challenges of business space, provide a clean and decent environment to do business, as well as increase the business operation time, through installed amenities like electricity and running water.
“I have issued financial assistance to our flood-affected traders to enable them to recover and rebuild their businesses. We want our local traders to restock their inventory and continue with their business,” said Ochilo.
The new market, set to be completed by the end of this year, will also include a ring road to ease the movement of people and goods and create space for parking, making Migori a strong economic hub.
