Governor Sang Disburses Sh. 74 million bursaries to Nandi learners

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang today officiated the disbursement of Ksh 74 million in bursaries to support learners across the county, underscoring his administration’s commitment to expanding the education sector in the region.

Speaking at Eliud Kipchoge Stadium during the issuance of the first cohort bursary funds, Governor Sang, highlighted that the allocation will benefit 7,911 students in secondary schools and learners with special needs, easing the financial burden on families.

“This is more than just financial aid; it is an investment in dreams. Our dream is to see a generation of Nandi children who will rise above poverty, lead with knowledge, and compete with the best in the world. Education is the bridge to that future, and we will not relent until every child gets a fair chance to walk across it.” he said

The Governor noted that this year’s bursary process had been delayed by a rigorous legal procedure, but expressed satisfaction that the county had fulfilled its pledge to support needy learners.

The second term governor further called upon the National Government to join hands with counties in strengthening bursary support to ensure that no child is left behind due to lack of school fees.

“We believe that when we invest in the education of our young people, we invest in the future of Nandi and Kenya as a whole. Every child deserves the chance to access education and thrive,” he said.

Deputy Governor Dr. Yulita Mitei, who accompanied the Governor, emphasized the county’s commitment to inclusive development by providing education opportunities all learners.

“Education remains the greatest equalizer. By supporting both our bright students and learners with special needs, we are laying the foundation for a society where every child has a fair shot at success,” she stated.

Local leaders, education stakeholders and parents also hailed the initiative saying bursary program is proof that county resources can directly touch the lives of ordinary families.

“As a single mother, raising school fees has always been a struggle. Today’s bursary is a huge relief, and I can now concentrate on providing other basic needs,” said Josephine Chepkorir, a parent from Aldai constituency.

Mary Chepkoech, a form three student from Chesumei sub county said, “This support means I will stay in school and focus on my dream of becoming a doctor. I thank the county government for standing with us.”

Apart from bursaries, Governor Sang highlighted the county’s broader strides in education, including investments in Early Childhood Development (ECD).

Over the past few years, the county has employed over 1,000 ECD teachers, improved infrastructure in nursery schools, and equipped learning centers with teaching materials to strengthen the foundation of education.
