Governor urges government to pardon youth, pave way for dialogue

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has urged the national government to pardon youth who participated in the nationwide protests.

The governor urged the government to secure release of youth held in various police cells and provide bail for those facing charges in court.

Governor Barasa also urged counties to waive hospital bills for youth who are receiving medication in various hospitals due to injuries sustained while participating in protests.

“I want also to request the national government and the security agencies, those who are holding our youth, please release them. The government should also waive hospital bills for those who have been injured so that the youth can engage the national officials in dialogue. It’s only dialogue that can address the issues that are affecting our country,” he noted.

He was speaking to the media at the county headquarters on Wednesday where he supported the call for a national conclave to listen to the concerns of the youth and bring national healing.

“I want to support my party leader Raila Odinga for the call for a generational conclave so that we can have dialogue with the youth,” the governor added.

He also urged the youth to respect and avoid abusing the national government and county officials.

“It is important that we have this dialogue; as a county government, we are going to continuously engage our youths so that we can address their problems which include unemployment,” he noted.
