Govt to improve NGAO offices, police stations

The Interior and National Coordination Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has emphasised the urgent need for modern police stations and chiefs’ offices to improve service delivery to wananchi.

Speaking during the Jukwaa la Usalama in Kericho, Murkomen reiterated the need for clear policy on security sector infrastructure to facilitate modern office construction for Deputy County Commissioners, Chiefs’ offices, and police stations across the country.

The CS decried the inadequate security docket budget, which only covers salaries and ministry activities, despite the huge need for infrastructural development.

He called for the adoption of new funding options for the National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) offices and police stations across the country.

“We need to sit down with the NG-CDF at the constituency level and be able to ringfence a certain percentage of the fund to facilitate the development and construction of DCCs offices, Chiefs offices and the police stations across the country,” Murkomen said.

At the same time, the CS has directed chiefs and their assistants in Kericho to intensify a crackdown on brewing and consumption of illicit brews, which threatens to reverse past gains made in eradicating the menace.

Murkomen cited Kapsoit and Sosiot in the Belgut constituency and the Nyakacho estate in Kericho town as some of the notorious areas where illegal brews were rampant, despite the ongoing crackdown.

He directed Chiefs and Officer Commanding Stations (OCS) for the affected locations, as well as the DCC for Belgut Sub County, to take decisive action against the vice and ensure the areas were free from the shackles of alcoholism and other drugs.

“I will intentionally visit the Belgut area when the area legislator is having a function and if I find some of the residents drunk in the morning, I will ensure disciplinary action is taken against the NGAO officers in the area.” Murkomen warned.

The CS also noted that there was also a rise in consumption of illicit brews and defilements of minors in the Kipkelion region, stating that those found  perpetrating the vice will be arrested and prosecuted in a court of law.
