Hands off our girls, PS Bitok declares zero tolerance on school harassment

The Ministry of Education will not tolerate any kind of harassment in schools, Principal Secretary (PS) for Basic Education, Professor Julius Bitok, has warned.

Speaking at Kapkoros Barngetuny Secondary School in Nandi Hills, PS Bitok said all cases of bad behaviours meted to learners while they are in school will not be tolerated.

” We are not going to condone such behaviour where our teachers or any other school workers take advantage of our students, ” PS warned.

He said those who will be found with contemptuous behaviour will be made to face full force of the law.

PS Bitok was responding to an alleged sexual harassment reported in Alliance Girls’ High School in Kiambu County, where a teacher is said to have been molesting school girls over a period of time.

Several other interested parties, including the school alumni, have called for interdiction and quick prosecution of the teacher.

PS Bitok asked the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to respond and discipline their employee and the accused teacher accordingly

” We have called upon the Teachers Service Commission to deal with the teacher, such behaviour must stop forthwith, “PS Bitok said.

The PS was with a team of three other Principal Secretaries who had accompanied him to celebrate good performance posted by the school in last year’s KCSE.

They were:  Higher Education Principal Secretary, Dr Beatrice Inyangala, PS for East Africa Affairs, Dr Caroline Karugu, and Joel Arumonyang PS, State Departments of public works.

They all asked the students to concentrate on their studies, assuring them that the government has already put in place measures to absorb them in various high institutions of learning, upon completion of their Basic level of education.
