Harambee Starlets drawn in group A for 2026 WAFCON

Kenya’s Harambee Starlets have been drawn in Group A of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) following the official tournament draw held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, in Rabat, Morocco by the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF).

The 2026 edition marks a significant milestone for the Harambee Starlets, who return to WAFCON ten years after their debut in 2016.

In Group A, the Harambee Starlets will face hosts Morocco, Senegal, and Algeria in what promises to be a highly competitive pool.

The Football Federation of Kenya (FKF) announced Thursday 15th that Kenya secured their place at the 2026 WAFCON after a convincing two-legged victory over The Gambia in the qualifiers.

The Starlets recorded a 3-1 win in the first leg before completing the job with a 1-0 victory in the return fixture, advancing with a 4-1 aggregate score.

Goals from Mwanalima Adam, Fasila Adhiambo, and Shirleen Opisa played a crucial role in guiding the team back to the continental stage.

Harambee Starlets head coach Beldine Odemba expressed optimism following the draw, noting the importance of competing against top opposition.

“We are growing and looking forward to becoming a strong footballing nation in women’s football. If we do not play and experience the best, we can never be the best. We are happy and excited for the tournament.” said Odemba.

CAF announced that the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will be staged from March 17 to April 3, 2026, bringing together Africa’s top national teams in a tournament that also serves as a qualification pathway to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Meanwhile, Tanzania will have to navigate through Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso and South Africa in Group B. Defending champions Nigeria are in group C alongside Egypt, Zambia, and Malawi, while Mali, Cape Verde, Ghana and Cameroon make up group D.
