IEBC urged to offer civic education

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has been urged to offer civic education in every ward to enable citizens make informed decisions as far as registering as voters was concerned.

Speaking during a Wananchi session organized by residents of Migori town at the Migori Teacher’s Training College (TTC), area residents led by Rashid Odhiambo noted that some youths have never voted and thus deserves to be sensitized on the importance of registering as voters and participating in the electoral process.

Another resident, Peter Ouma, echoed similar sentiments, saying, “If the IEBC provides civic education, it will be beneficial to the citizens, especially the Gen Zs.”

He added that the IEBC should engage with citizens by visiting registration centres and urging people to register.

They also emphasised the importance of citizen participation in the electoral process and called on the Government to make voter registration mandatory.
