Igembe South MP urges youth to enrol in TVET

Igembe South Member of Parliament (MP), Johnpaul Mwirigi, has urged residents, especially the youth to take advantage of technical and Vocational education and training (TVET) institutions, noting that practical skills are becoming essential in the current job market, where white-collar opportunities continue to shrink.

Speaking at a fundraising ceremony for St. Joseph Methodist Church in Maua, the MP said TVET Institutions, offer hands-on training that equips learners with high demand skills such as electrical installation, plumbing, hairdressing and beauty therapy, welding, carpentry, tailoring and fashion design among others.

“These skills not only increase employability, but also give young people the capacity to create self-employment opportunities and build sustainable livelihoods.

The MP highlighted ongoing development projects within the Constituency, including the partitioning of Igembe South into two Sub-counties, the ongoing construction of a modern market in Maua town, completion of a Huduma Centre, and the opening of Kindaani Technical Training Institute, with more institutions expected to expand training options for the youths.

The Legislator urged political figures to prioritize projects that uplift the community, instead of engaging in unnecessary political battles.

He further appealed to young people to turn-up in large numbers for the upcoming police recruitment exercise scheduled for Monday, 17 November, revealing that the process will take place in two centres one in Akachiu and another in Maua Stadium.

Meru Deputy Governor, Linda Kihome, was among the dignitaries present at the event alongside other leaders.
