Information Directorate and Office of the President’s Minorities and Marginalized Affairs Unit agree to collaborate

The Directorate of Information leadership today held a consultative meeting with officials from the Office of the President’s Minorities and Marginalized Affairs Unit to discuss areas of collaboration in highlighting issues affecting minority and marginalized communities across the country.

The meeting, held at the Directorate’s headquarters at Uchumi House, brought together section heads at the Directorate and those from the Minorities and Marginalized Affairs Unit in the President’s Office (M&MAU), where they explored strategies on how to raise awareness, advocate for policy changes, and amplifying the voices of minority groups.

Among the key resolutions reached was a joint commitment to assist publicize the comprehensive policy framework aimed at addressing the unique challenges faced by minority and marginalized communities.

The policy will focus on areas such as education, access to social services, economic empowerment, and cultural preservation.

Speaking during the session, Director of Information Mr. Joseph Kipkoech and M&MAU Deputy Director Communications, Charles Kibiwott emphasized the importance of accurate and impactful communication in promoting inclusivity.

They agreed that KNA, being a leading national news agency, will play a vital role in documenting success stories, challenges, and progress made in addressing issues affecting minority groups.

The meeting also highlighted the need for organizing awareness campaigns and the dissemination of information on government programs tailored for the marginalized communities, especially in far-flung areas where access to information is limited.

This partnership marks a significant step toward inclusive development, with both parties vowing to work hand-in-hand to ensure that no community is left behind.

Both parties also agreed to form a joint task force that will oversee the implementation of a workplan to ensure continuous engagement, and facilitate regular monitoring and evaluation of progress.

The partnership is expected to enhance not only the visibility of minority issues in Kenya but also ensure that policy interventions are evidence-based and responsive to the real needs of the affected communities.
