Investigations launched into a fire incident at Emmanuel Springs

Police in Makueni Sub county have launched investigations into a fire incident at Emmanuel Springs High School Thursday night.

The 9.30pm inferno at a boy’s dormitory burned all personal effects for 81 students while they were in class.

Speaking to the media in Wote town Friday, Makueni Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Paul Langat said the cause of the fire has not been established adding no life was lost.

“The cause of the fire is not known, that is why we have deployed the Directorate of Criminal Investigation Officers at the scene to establish what ignited it,” said Langat adding nothing was salvaged.

“We have advised the school management to assist the students with few personal effects like mattresses, blankets and uniforms to cushion them,” he said.

The DCC disclosed that Kenya Power will help to establish whether the fire was caused by an electric fault while Officers from Public Works will go there to assess the condition of the storied that was affected.

Also, the administrator said that they have asked the school management to ensure they get psychosocial support for students as they seemed traumatized.

” We have advised the school to invite the police Chaplain by Sunday to offer psycho-social support to the students who are traumatized. It is unfortunate to have this situation, but we are lucky no life was lost,” posed the administrator.

Langat challenged school principals to ensure they follow all the government requirements to ensure safety of students. “Principals must ensure all doors of dormitories are opened outward and also avoid putting grills on windows besides other requirements,” said the administrator.
