Kabarnet Church bans politicians from pulpit statements

A Kabarnet Church has banned local leaders and aspirants from making political statements during its worship services.

Speaking at The Africa Inland Church (AIC) Kabarnet town church on Sunday, Rev. Joshua Katamei said the order which began in January this year will be effective until after August 2027 general elections.

Katamei, who is the church chairman, stated that the decision was arrived at following past experiences where politicians misuse the pulpit.

He noted that politicians are welcomed to the church and will strictly be given the opportunity to introduce themselves and receive prayers in front of the worshipers.

The man of God warned all those who will disobey the directive by selling their political agendas in church that they risk being stopped from making further comments and corrected in front of the congregation.

“The beauty with us is that we have all the time to listen to you outside the sanctuary after service,” said Katamei.

He challenged other denominations within the county to embrace the new rule which he notes will restore the sanctity of the altar and allow members to focus on spiritual growth rather than political patronage.

Rev Katamei at the same time discouraged political aspirants against making multiple church visits in a single day to seek diverse audiences, noting that it limits their commitment with God and the people they aspire to represent.

Baringo County is ranked fourth countrywide in terms of political aspirants after it registered 615 United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party candidates in February this year.
