Kachapin hosts survivors of tragic road accident

West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin on Wednesday hosted a team of 45 travellers from Isiolo County who were involved in an accident enroute to Lodwar for the annual cultural festival.

Kachapin hosted them at his official residence for breakfast and offered a bus for their return to Isiolo after consultations with officials from Isiolo.

The accident happened last night at the Kamatira black spot on the Kapenguria-Lodwar Highway within West Pokot County.

The team is said to have been travelling to Lodwar to participate in the Tobong’u Lore Festival.

He said two members sustained serious injuries and were currently receiving care at the Kapenguria County Teaching and Referral Hospital, while the rest were treated and discharged.

“We thank God for sparing their lives. Following the accident, I have made arrangements for the team’s return to Isiolo using the County Sports Bus,” stated Kachapin.

He said he had received a call from the Deputy Governor of Isiolo County, Dr. James Lowasa, who conveyed his appreciation for the swift and professional response by the medical teams.

“It is worth noting that all patients were fully assessed at Kapenguria County Referral Hospital, now equipped with a CT scan, making it unnecessary to refer any of the injured to other facilities,” stated the Governor.

He wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Kamatira is a known black spot where, according to residents, a day barely goes by without witnessing an accident owing to the winding bends on the steep slope.

They are calling on the government to speed up the ongoing upgrading of the road citing the increased traffic occasioned by the high number of trucks ferrying clinker from the Sebit cement Factory in the region.
