Kapkugerwet Street lights beefs security

Security has been beefed in Kapkugerwet Ward in Kericho County since the four Kilometre street lighting project along the Brooke–Corner Shop–Kapsirgong Full Gospel Church corridor was switched on.

The initiative, led by Kapkugerwet Ward Member of County Assembly Hon. Martin Cheruiyot, was realized through a strategic partnership between residents and the ward’s diaspora community who joined forces, pooling resources and expertise to turn the project into reality.

“This project was designed to do more than light up a road. It is about ensuring that every resident can move safely at night, that businesses can operate securely after dusk, and that our community feels protected and confident,” Hon. Cheruiyot said.
He described the lighting project as a symbol of unity and shared vision among community members.

“When a community comes together with a common goal, the impact is tangible and lasting. This is a demonstration of what we can achieve when we combine resources, talent, and commitment,” Hon. Martin Cheruiyot said, adding that the project aligns with a broader agenda focused on community-led development.

Residents praised the project, noting its immediate benefits. Traders said improved lighting would enable longer operating hours, while boda boda riders welcomed the increased visibility along previously dark and dangerous stretches.

“Our brothers and sisters abroad are a vital pillar in local development. Their support for this project shows how much we can achieve when everyone takes responsibility for their community,” Cheruiyot said, acknowledging the role of the diaspora.

He pledged to expand similar street lighting initiatives across Kapkugerwet Ward to strengthen public safety and promote economic growth.

“I am committed to development that puts the welfare of our people first. Every project we undertake must leave a lasting impact on the lives of residents,” Cheruiyot added.

He urged residents to stay engaged and support future development initiatives.

“Progress is most meaningful when shared. Together, we can transform our community into a model of safety, prosperity, and unity,” he reiterated.

As lights now shine along the corridor each night, they serve as a beacon of progress a visible testament to what unity, vision, and community-driven development can achieve in building a safer, brighter, and more prosperous Kapkugerwet Ward.
