Kapteldon Sub-County Hospital, in Kapseret Sub-County, has achieved a major healthcare milestone after Governor, Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim officially commissioned a fully equipped digital X-ray unit, an investment set to significantly enhance diagnostic services for residents of Kapseret and neighbouring areas.
The Governor also unveiled a suite of critical diagnostic equipment, including an ultrasound machine, a full hemogram analyser, and an HbA1c machine. These tools will strengthen detection and management of conditions such as pneumonia, prostate cancer, blood sugar disorders, platelet abnormalities, and other critical illnesses.
The state-of-the-art facility, now fully operational, marks a critical step in improving access to quality, timely, and affordable healthcare at the sub-county level.
Patients will no longer need to travel long distances to referral hospitals for imaging services, easing both financial and logistical burdens for families.
Dr. Bii noted that the modern digital X-ray system allows radiographers to examine specific areas with greater precision, enhancing early diagnosis and timely treatment.
He emphasised that the investment aims to strengthen Kapteldon Hospital and reduce unnecessary referrals to higher-level facilities.
“We want to decongest Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) by ensuring our people access quality services right here at Kapteldon,” said Dr. Bii. “This facility now has the capacity to serve our residents effectively, and I urge them to make full use of it.”
He reiterated that his administration remains committed to delivering quality healthcare, highlighting that healthcare is the second pillar of his manifesto. The new ultrasound services will enable doctors to better assess tissue-related conditions, benefiting mothers, children, and patients with complex medical needs.
County health officials hailed the project as a game-changer, noting it will improve early diagnosis, support accurate treatment, and enhance emergency care—particularly for accident victims, expectant mothers, and patients living with chronic illnesses.
County Executive Committee Member for Health Janet Kurgat praised the hospital’s growing capacity, highlighting the maternity unit as a key contributor to improved maternal health outcomes.
Chief Officer for Clinical Services Ambrose Tarus confirmed that X-ray services are now fully operational and that the facility is well-stocked with essential drugs and offers dental services.
“We have the equipment, we have the medicines, and we have skilled health workers. I urge our residents to utilise county health facilities and benefit from the improved services now available,” said Tarus.
Area Member of County Assembly Moses Kebenei expressed gratitude to the County Government for fulfilling promises to residents, including installation of gates, cabros, facility facelift, and perimeter fencing. Residents were urged to visit the digital X-ray unit, with diagnostic services offered free for patients registered under the Social Health Authority (SHA).
The unit is also expected to ease congestion at major referral hospitals by decentralising essential diagnostic services.
The launch underscores the County administration’s commitment to investing in modern medical equipment, upgrading health infrastructure, and promoting equitable access to healthcare across all sub-counties.
The new facility positions Kapteldon Sub-County Hospital as a growing diagnostic hub, bringing quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare closer to the people.
Residents of Kapteldon have welcomed the development, terming it a long-awaited intervention that will transform service delivery and improve health outcomes in the area.
Also present during the launch were County Executive Committee Members Dr. Sam Kottut (Agriculture and Agribusiness) and Robert Kemei (ICT, Youth Affairs and Sports), Chief Officers Abraham Kiptalam (Agriculture) and Geoffrey Tanui (Roads), and Director of Medical Services Dr. Evans Kiprotich.
