Karachuonyo residents benefit from free medical camp

Residents of Karachuonyo constituency in Homa bay County have  benefited from a free medical camp organised by Minet Kenya.

The event was conducted at the Miyuga mixed secondary school  by healthcare providers from various medical institutions including LifeCare and Oasis Health.

The area residents received medication for diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, eye infections, malaria and paediatric ailments, among other conditions.

Hundreds of residents afflicted by various ailments from  neighbouring constituencies like Kasipul and Kabondo Kasipul received free medical services.

One of the beneficiaries, Mary Anyango expressed a sigh of relief after getting both consultation and drugs free of charge.

“Most of our public health facilities lack drugs, forcing us to buy them. I have been diagnosed and given drugs instantly free of charge,” she said, adding that she could have been left stranded if she were to purchase drugs.

On his part, Anton Ombura called for more free medical camps in the area. “This is a big relief to those of us who are financially challenged,” he said.

Linet Otieno and Oliver Tambo said the medical camp was geared towards saving lives.

At the same time, the General Manager of Minet Kenya, Edwin Kegode, said the medical camp targeted the vulnerable people.

Kegode said there were many people with various treatable ailments across villages, but they could not access medication due to financial challenges.

“We have established that there are many people who cannot afford medication due to financial challenges. That is the essence of this medical camp,” he emphasised.

Stressing the importance of taking health services closer to the people, the General Manager said, “Access to medical care is important and the people should have the services without necessarily travelling long distances.”

During the function,  Minet Kenya also provided Miyuga mixed school with two water tanks to improve sanitation in the area.
