Residents of the Mount Kenya region have been urged to be patient as the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration, led by President William Ruto, relentlessly works to fulfill all the 2022 pre-election promises.
A section of Mt Kenya MPs allied to the Kenya Kwanza administration on Thursday stressed that all projects which are under construction will be completed on time.
The legislators led by Laikipia East MP, Mwangi Kiunjuri, said they are ready to engage residents of the entire region, to list their grievances so as to advise the government about the needs and priorities to be addressed.
Speaking during an empowerment event at Kihoya area in Kangema constituency, the law makers observed that being in government will help them to push for implementation of all projects that were promised during 2022 general elections.
During the event, local residents listed challenges including hitches with SHA, university education, late remittance of capitation to public schools, stalled road projects, lack of electricity, abduction and killing of the youths among others.
“Our mission is to provide the residents with a platform to air their issues so we can advise the government on projects to be prioritised,” said Kiunjuri who said he has crisscrossed constituencies in Nyeri, Trans Nzoia, Laikipia, and Murang’a among others to collect people’s views.
Kiunjuri observed that President Ruto’s administration has allocated funds by more than 70 percent for completion of development projects left behind by the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Former presidents including Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel Moi, Mwai Kibaki, Uhuru Kenyatta did their best, the same as Ruto is doing during his term to accomplish the programmes inherited from Uhuru administration,” added the Laikipia East lawmaker.
Kiunjuri and the other MPs including Peter Kihungi (Kangema), Veronica Maina (nominated senator) Betty Maina (Murang’a woman rep) and Michael Wambugu( (Othaya) promised all listed concerns by the local residents will be submitted to the President
They urged residents from the region to embrace tolerance and allow President Ruto complete his term while he was accomplishing the planned development.
On his part, Kihungi assured that the government is working to complete tarmacking Mau road.
He said before the contract resumes the tarmacking works, destroyed areas of the road will be repaired to ease transportation of tea to factories.
“As we await the upgrading of the Mau road to bitumen standard, I will work to ensure destroyed parts are fixed with marram, once the rains subside to ensure the road is easily passable,” said Kihungi.
Kihungi further called upon Kenyans to embrace peace and support government’s initiatives which are meant to improve their livelihoods.
The county woman rep Ms Maina called upon Murang’a residents to rally behind the government for smooth implementation of development programmes.
The opposition leaders, she said, lack a working agenda as only preoccupied with endless politics of division.
