Kericho injects Sh2.3 billion to transform Litein

Kericho County is embarking on a major transformation agenda for Litein town, with plans to inject over Sh 2.3 billion into critical infrastructure aimed at unlocking its potential as a commercial hub.

The strategic investment comes as private sector players such as Mabati Rolling Mills (MRM) expand operations in the region, signalling renewed confidence in Litein’s economic future.

Speaking during the official opening of MRM’s 26th showroom, Kericho County CEC for Trade, Industrialisation, Innovation, Wildlife, and Tourism John Cheruiyot said the multi-billion-shilling investment, funded through the Office of the Governor, is part of a deliberate push to transform Litein into an investment-ready town with reliable public utilities.

“We are now focusing on making Litein a modern, investment-ready town. Where physical structures must be built, we will fast-track approvals and decentralise essential services such as water and permitting. We want our investors to find an environment that is conducive, reliable, and forward-looking,” said Cheruiyot.

In an Interview with KNA, Cheruiyot noted that Litein is entering a critical phase of transformation, with the county strategically channelling resources to align the town’s growth with both investor demands and community aspirations.

He emphasised that the county is committed to positioning Litein as a modern, investment-ready hub by accelerating development approvals and decentralising essential services such as water distribution and permitting.

The goal, he said, is to create a reliable, enabling environment that fosters investor confidence and long-term economic growth.

He was confident that the county’s active collaboration with international development agencies, including the World Bank, would yield transformative results for Litein.

The CEC noted that through these partnerships, comprehensive urban renewal programmes are being rolled out to tackle persistent sanitation and drainage issues affecting both residential and commercial zones.

“These are not just short-term fixes. The sewerage and drainage systems we are planning for this year are part of a long-term urban development strategy. Clean towns attract serious investors, and we are determined to make Litein a shining example of a well-planned trading centre,” said Cheruiyot.

The county government has pledged to sustain infrastructure development and streamline approval processes to encourage greater private sector involvement.

With strategic partnerships like those with Mabati Rolling Mills and ongoing support from international agencies, Litein is rapidly emerging as a model for inclusive, investment-driven growth in Kericho County—a town where public ambition and private enterprise are forging a transformative future.
