Kericho Kipkelion sub-county sitting volleyball team secures first tournament win

Kericho sitting volley ball team from Kipkelion sub-county delivered a convincing performance against Ainamoi sub-county team during the finals of the inaugural KKK sitting volleyball tournament held at the Kiprugut Chumo Stadium in Kericho County.

The team featuring both men and women performed admirably at the sidelines of the Kiprugut Chumo football pitch with a 1-0 straight-sets victory, with their scores reflecting their dominance (25-20, 25-22 and 15-10).

The players, all with physical disabilities, were a reflection of the team’s hard work and dedication throughout their month-long training for the KKK tournament sponsored by Senator and Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot.

Speaking to KNA, head coach Paul Byegon praised the team’s performance while in the same breath appreciating the sponsor’s support for athletes with disabilities.

“I have identified the talented individuals who stood out today and I am confident we can form a strong Kericho team for this game. I want to thank Senator Aaron Cheruiyot for this opportunity and we are hoping for more support. I want to urge people living with disabilities in the county not to shy away from joining competitive sports; this game is all about experience,” said Coach Byegon.

Former Kericho MCA Geoffrey Bill, a representative of persons with disabilities attended the game.

Sitting volleyball is played by athletes with physical disabilities often those with lower limb impairments.

The game follows similar rules to traditional volleyball, with teams hitting the ball over a lower net while seated on the floor.
