Kiambu intensifies security during festive season

Security agencies in Kiambu County have stepped up operations ahead of the Christmas and end-of-year festive season to curb criminal activities, with a particular focus on the sale and consumption of illicit brews and narcotic drugs.

The intensified security surveillance was rolled out on Tuesday night when police officers in Juja Sub-County, working in collaboration with the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), conducted a targeted operation in the Kimbo area.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), officers recovered a large quantity of suspected narcotic substances during the operation. The seized items included 2,983 rolls and 94 sachets of plant material believed to be Cannabis sativa.

In addition to the drugs, police also confiscated a digital weighing scale, assorted packaging materials, several mobile phones and an unspecified amount of cash suspected to be proceeds of illegal drug trade.

The items were recovered during a coordinated raid targeting suspected drug distribution points, following intelligence reports provided by members of the public. Police said the operation was carefully planned to disrupt supply networks operating within residential areas.

Suspects linked to the recovered items were arrested during the operation and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.

Authorities noted that the crackdown is part of ongoing multi-agency efforts aimed at curbing the production, distribution and consumption of illicit brews and narcotic drugs across the county. They emphasized that substance abuse poses serious risks to public health, security and social stability, especially during festive periods when cases of crime and drug abuse tend to rise.

Security agencies have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to continue sharing timely information with law enforcement officers to support efforts aimed at keeping communities safe throughout the festive season.
