Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has warned Nyanza residents to be wary of leaders who want to take them to opposition after the 2027 General Election.
The deputy president asserted that by supporting re-election of President William Ruto, the region will not only enjoy more development projects but also reap benefits from the ongoing projects once they are completed.
Speaking today at Miriya Comprehensive School, Homa Bay County, when he presided over a fundraiser for women empowerment programme, Kindiki said the region had been in the opposition for too long.
He said that it was time for the community to make a unanimous decision to be in the government.
“The people of Nyanza were not created to be in the opposition continually. Avoid leaders who want to you back there,” Kindiki said.
He said supporting Ruto’s re-election will quicken implementing of more development projects in the region.
Prof Kindiki said projects worth billions of shillings were ongoing on in Nyanza region including construction of markets, roads, piers and rural electrification.
“Support the broad-based government in order to transform your lives even more with development projects,” Prof Kindiki said.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS), John Mbadi, said they had agreed to support Ruto’s re-election.
“Let us support President Ruto’s re-election for development to continue flourishing in our region,” Mbadi said.
ODM Party Leader, Oburu Oginga, said plans were at an advance stage for negotiations with UDA party on a pre-election coalition pact.
“We are going to negotiate with like-minded parties but we will begin with UDA,” Oburu said.
He challenged ODM leaders who are dissatisfied with the party position to quit instead of creating wrangles.
“We must speak with one voice as a party but anybody who is not satisfied can quit,” Oburu said.
ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga challenged the Linda Mwananchi faction to state their end game.
“We should all be wary of the group because they are not taking us anywhere,” Wanga said.
Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen, warned politicians against causing anarchy and using goons.
He said they will not allow politicians to cause chaos and blood shed for their selfish gains.
“We will take stern measures against any politician who causes a breach of peace.” Murkomen warned.
