KNUT official calls on teachers to desist from carnal knowledge

About 470 teachers have been deregistered from Teachers’ Service Commission over the last five years for having carnal knowledge with their pupils rendering them unsuitable to teach in any school in the country.

This was disclosed by the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) National Chair Malel Langat during the Nandi South Branch KNUT Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Kobujoi grounds today.

“In this country, teachers have been dismissed because of having carnal knowledge with their students. Kindly desist from such acts,” Langat noted, terming the behaviour as one of the indiscipline issues that cannot be tolerated at any cost.

Langat divulged that as a union, they do not advocate for such immoral acts that take advantage of innocent learners who instead needed to be guided instead by their teachers on how to excel in their academics.

He further commended the committee for their good work and teachers from Nandi South branch for upholding high standard of moral behaviour urging them to continue with the same spirit as a measure towards uplifting the image of the education standards in their region.

Additionally, Langat utilized the platform to urge teachers who were not members of SACCOs as well as the burial and benevolent fund to ensure they joined the same, noting that the special funds played a great role whenever death struck.

“It’s unfortunate that in this branch, we have very few teachers who are enrolled in the burial and benevolent fund,” divulged Langat.

Nandi South Branch Executive Secretary Stephen Misoi in his report lauded teachers from this region for maintaining good morals in their work. He however noted that a few of the teachers were still experiencing challenges on alcoholism.

Misoi pleaded with the Sub County Director of Education to organize an engagement with the affected teachers to provide guidance and counselling which could go a long way in reforming their behavior.

“I urge all our members to continue observing and maintaining high moral standards as we endeavor to uplift the image and education standards of our Sub County,” stated Misoi.
