The elephant that trampled to death Eunice Odupoi, an Early Childhood Development (ECD) teacher near her home at Ilailupa Village, Kajiado West two days ago has been killed by KWS rangers.
Amboseli Conservation Area Chief Park Warden Mr. Joel Ole Nyika said the jumbo was eliminated following a professional assessment that deemed it a public threat.
He noted that the exercise was conducted in line with established wildlife management procedures and with the primary aim of safeguarding human life.
Leaders from Kajiado County, led by Woman Representative Leah Sankaire, condemned the incident and called on KWS to relocate the elephants roaming close to human settlements to prevent further human–wildlife conflict.
Sankaire also urged KWS to fast-track compensation for the victim’s family, noting that the late Odupoi was the family’s sole breadwinner.
