A section of elected leaders in Kisii County have called upon area residents to support president William Ruto’s move to fight corruption at the Social Health Authority(SHA) saying they stood to benefit from the programme.
Speaking in Bonyanchara village, Riana Ward, Kisii County, the leaders who were launching the Last Mile Electrification Connectivity in the area also called for mass registration into health insurance.
South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro urged residents to support the government in providing affordable health care saying Mombasa was topping in the number of registered members, followed by Nyeri County.
Osoro lashed at those supporting medical facilities that have been deregistered over alleged corruption saying they were supporting embezzlement of public resources and they stood to lose support from the electorate during the next general elections.
He also told off those threatening to impeach Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale over the alleged scandal, adding that they should concentrate on development and let the investigative agencies do their work.
The MP called for unity of all leaders from the region saying elections were still very far to call for early campaigns.
“Elections will come in 2027 and we can’t continue politicking; we must recognize that the president of the republic of Kenya is still William Ruto,” he said.
On his part, Zaheer Jhanda, the Nyaribari chache MP, underscored the importance of SHA claiming those against it were cartels in the previous National Health Insurance Fund(NHIF).
Jhanda explained that SHA had in the last two years paid Sh49 billion to those already registered.
He said NHIF had since independence registered only six million people in the 30 years it was in existence, while SHA had within only two years registered 25 million people.
Also present were the Kisii County Women Rep Doris Donya Aburi, her Nyamira counterpart Jerusha Momanyi and nominated senator Esther Okenyuri among other politicians.
