Leaders call for support ahead of Madaraka Day

The Cabinet Secretary(CS) for Roads and Transport, Davis Chirchir has called on the public to embrace the broad-based government to foster economic development and national stability.

He emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration and encouraged the public to support the government and enjoy the benefits that come with it, adding, “Let us work together and support each other to ensure economic development in the country.”

The CS who spoke at Kabunde Airstrip in Homa Bay County during an inspection tour of flagship projects was accompanied by the Principal Secretary, State Department for Roads Eng. Joseph Mbugua, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Rangwe MP Lilian Gogo, the County security team and other officials from the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) and the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).

Chirchir confirmed that preparations for the upcoming Madaraka Day celebrations scheduled for June 1 are progressing as planned and at the same time assured that the ongoing road works including the 500-metre stretch of the main road are progressing well.

“The remaining 500 metres of road will be completed at a later date. The construction work will continue throughout this week to October ahead of the Devolution Conference,” noted the CS.

Among the key projects are the expansion of the Kabunde Airstrip, revitalization of the Homa Bay Pier and the dualling of the main arterial road, which are considered critical to the success of the national event.

CS Chirchir said his visit was intended to finalize all preparations for the national holiday which included overseeing the completion of these projects.

“The people of Homa Bay will witness a level of transformation they have never seen before, thanks to the inclusive nature of this broad-based government,” he said.

Earlier, he acknowledged, there were significant infrastructural challenges, primarily due to pending bills, but these issues have now been resolved, he informed.

“The contractors have resumed work after we cleared 40 percent of the outstanding payments. This is a major step, as we have disbursed up to Shs. 60 billion over the past one and a half months to revive stalled road projects not only in Homa Bay but throughout the country,” he noted.

Governor Wanga praised the national government under President William Ruto for its commitment to transforming Homa Bay County.

She pledged her continued support for the broad-based administration, saying, “The progress we are seeing in Homa Bay today is unprecedented, and it is due to the cooperation, unity, and stability of the country. This is why we continue to support this government.”

Furthermore, she extended her gratitude to the Cabinet Secretary and his team, noting that their coordinated efforts and planning had significantly improved road infrastructure in the town.

Gogo on the other hand echoed these sentiments and emphasized the visible impact of the broad-based government through various infrastructure developments across the county.

“In a very short time, we have seen roads being constructed and improvements across several sectors of infrastructure. I want to tell greater Kenya that we are fully committed to the broad-based government,” she stated.
