Leaders in Busia County have called on the County Administration Team to ensure there is full implementation of the government’s directives on issuance of academic certificates and identification cards.
Led by Budalangi Member of Parliament Raphael Wanjala, they said many youths were missing opportunities as their certificates continue to be held in schools against the government directive that they be given out
“We cannot continue to have scenarios in the county where our children are missing out on many opportunities because they do not have certificates,” Wanjala said.
“We have seen many of our youth failing to turn up for recruitments and even joining tertiary institutions because they do not have certificates. When the government gives a directive, it should be implemented without hesitation.”
Wanjala called on the National Government Administrative Officers in the county to work closely with the parents to ensure that children who completed their KCSE have been issued with their certificate.
“The County Commissioner with the entire team of administration should now work closely with those parents with children whose certificates are being held in schools so that they can be given out immediately because the government has directed so.”
He warned the heads of school who defied the president’s directive that they will face disciplinary action and called them to cooperate with parents and students to ensure there is smooth issuance of the certificates.
Busia Deputy Governor Arthur Odera said many residents in the county have remained without National Identity cards for a long time.
Odera called on the National Government Administration Officers in the county to ensure that everyone who is a Kenyan has been issued the ID card.
“We have our grandmothers who have been married here for more than 50 years but they do not have identification cards. The president said that everyone should be given an ID so long as it is confirmed that they are Kenyan. I want to urge all the national administration teams in the county to ensure that they all help in implementing the president’s directive.
He argued that lack of the identification card has remained a challenge for the enrolment of many people with the Social Health Authority (SHA) in the county.
“We are mobilizing our people to register for SHA for them to get better and affordable health services. This cannot work without this essential document. Many of our people are willing to register but the challenge remains the lack of identification cards,” he said.
