Leaders pay tribute to late Chief Kadhi Hussein

An outpouring of messages of condolence continues to stream in following the death of Chief Kadhi Abdul Halim Hussein, who passed away on Wednesday night.

The late Chief Kadhi will be laid to rest today in Mombasa. Funeral prayers (Swalatul Janazah) will be held at Masjid Nur in Bondeni after the 4pm prayer (Swalatul Asr), followed by burial at Kikowani Muslim Cemetery in accordance with Islamic rites.

Sheikh Hussein was appointed Chief Kadhi in July 2023, after a competitive recruitment process conducted by the Judicial Service Commission, succeeding the retired Sheikh Ahmed Muhdhar.

The Head of State mourned Sheikh Abdulhalim as a devoted servant of humanity who led the Muslim faithful with unwavering dedication, humility, and wisdom.

“He will be remembered as a great Islamic scholar who was committed to justice. We pray that Allah brings comfort to his family and the entire Muslim community during this time of sorrow,” said the President in a condolence message posted on his verified X account.

Chief Justice Martha Koome described Sheikh Hussein as a man who served the Judiciary and the people of Kenya with integrity and steadfast commitment.

“As Chief Kadhi, he was a champion of justice, fairness and equity, particularly in matters of personal law within the Muslim Community,” stated the Chief Justice, adding that his passing is a great loss not only to the Judiciary but to the entire country.

CJ Koome further noted that the Chief Kadhi will be remembered as a deeply spiritual and principled leader who championed peaceful coexistence, respect for diversity and harmony in the society.

Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, Hassan Joho, eulogised Sheikh Hussein as more than just a leader but a beacon of hope and wisdom.

“His approach to justice and Islamic jurisprudence reflected a deep empathy, integrity, mentorship and wisdom. He was a guiding light in the lives of many and will always be remembered as a unifying leader of great integrity. His presence touched the lives of countless individuals, and his absence creates a void that will be felt deep in our hearts.”
