 Makueni hosts national para volleyball trials for Persons with Disabilities

Makueni County is hosting the national para volleyball (sitting volleyball) trials for persons with disabilities at the Makueni Girls High School in Wote town of Makueni Sub county for three days.

Among the teams that will participate include Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Siaya, Laikipia, Nakuru, Vihiga, Meru, Nairobi, Migori, Kisumu, Bungoma and Makueni Counties respectively.

The County Executive Committee member for gender, children, youth, sports and social services, Eng. Sabastian Kyoni opened the tournament officially on Thursday.

While giving his remarks, Eng Kyoni reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to promoting sports for persons with disabilities besides involving them in decision making in the area.

Speaking at the same event, the Makueni County Disability Network Chairperson Justus Katumo welcomed the initiative saying it will provide an important platform to empower persons with disabilities especially those who possess exceptional talent and professional abilities.

The winning team will be selected and represent Kenya in the 2026 International Para Volleyball Championships in China.

In the opening match, Makueni’s men’s team dominated Mombasa with a 3–0 victory, boosting hopes of reaching the finals and contributing a strong contingent to the national squad.
