A 25-year old man was arraigned in an Eldoret Court on charges of defiling a Grade 8 learner.
John Njenga Kamau, who is unmarried, denied the charge when he appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Kesse Cheronoh.
The accused person was charged with defiling the pupil on diverse dates between January 11, 2026 and January 17, 2026 at D-Block area in Kapseret sub county, Uasin Gishu County.
He also faced an alternative charge of indecently assaulting the learner by touching the girl’s private parts.
The victim’s mother is said to have busted the accused person in one of the bedrooms in her house defiling her.
The suspect had sneaked into the girl’s bedroom while her mother was preparing breakfast for her children before they went to school when she stumbled on the suspect while in the act.
She reported the offense at Kiambaa Police Station and the accused was arrested the following.
The suspect pleaded with the court to grant him cash bail to save him from losing his job in a company where he works in Eldoret City.
“Your honor, I am praying that you grant me reasonable cash bail so as to save me from losing my job which I rely on to take care of my parents who entirely rely on me for their upkeep,” argued Kamau.
Prosecution opposed the bail and instead asked the Court to grant him bond owing to the seriousness of the devilment case he is facing.
“Your honor, we are not opposed to the prayers by the accused person be freed as it is his constitutional right, but we are opposed to his application to be released on cash bail due to the nature of the offence he is facing,” stated the State Counsel.
The court released the accused person on a bond of Sh300,000.
Kamau was however unable to raise the bond and was immediately escorted to Eldoret GK remand prison.
The case is set for mention on February 9 for further direction.
