Man charged with impersonating KDF Officer

A man has been arraigned before a Maralal Court charged with impersonating a Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) Officer, purporting to conduct a military intelligence exercise in Baragoi town.

However, the accused, Vincent Leshan pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Maralal Senior Principal Magistrate, John Tamar.

According to the charge sheet, Leshan is accused that on May 23, 2021 he falsely presented himself to Baragoi Police Station OCS, Chief Inspector, Wilfred Makori, as a person employed by KDF and claimed to be conducting a military intelligence within Baragoi town, a fact he knew to be false.

Leshan also denied an alternative charge of making a false Kenya Defense Forces document with intent to deceive or defraud.

The Charge stated that on 18th March 2013 at unknown place within the Republic of Kenya with intent to deceive or defraud without lawful authority, the accused made a KDF Certificate of Appointment (COA) Service Number 89451, bearing the name of Captain Vincent Leshan, purporting to be a genuine certificate issued by Kenya Defense Forces.

The prosecution asked the Court to suspend bond terms as the accused is at flight risk due to a warrant of arrests issued against him by a separate court.

The Court directed that the accused be remanded at Maralal GK Prison for a period of fourteen days until 14 June 2021 to give the prosecution time to produce previous arrest warrants issued by another Court against the accused before further orders can be given.
