Massive identification registration attracts 1,000 new applicants

A massive identification cards’ registration exercise has drawn more than one thousand new applicants in Igembe South within ten days, marking one of the highest turnouts recorded.

The mobile registration drive brought services directly to mwananchi, a move that residents overwhelmingly welcomed.

Speaking at his office, Igembe South Sub-County Registrar of Persons Purity Ceera said the turnout demonstrated just how much residents valued access to national documents when services are made more accessible.

“When we take services closer to the people, we remove barriers hence increasing applicants’ turnout,’’she said.

She further said that residents from remote areas who often struggled with transport and long distances hailed the move of bringing services close to them as doing so enabled them register with ease.

The initiative also targeted youths completing school and adults who had never acquired identification cards due to logistical challenges.

The registrar highlighted the importance of decentralising key services like registration of IDs to communities at remote areas saying it improves efficiency, inclusion and participation in national development.

“ID registration is a right to every citizen and bringing these services near the people ensures that right is upheld,” she said.

She noted that many residents lived far from administrative centres hence taking services near them reduced travel time and cost of transport, enabling them to access government services effortlessly.

Ceera further revealed that the sub-county currently has 562 uncollected ID cards and urged applicants to show commitment and follow-up on their documents.

“We are asking those who already applied to collect their IDs so that they can fully access government services,” the registrar added.
