Mau Mau veterans call for political tolerance

Mau Mau veterans under the Mau Mau Original Trust are now calling on the political class to tone down the current political tension, fearing it is likely to fuel hostility amongst Kenyans.

Speaking in Narok during their annual general meeting, the elders, led by Deputy Chairman Daniel Kamau, called on politicians to respect the office of the president despite their political differences.

“We are calling on the youth and political class to respect the current office holders, right from the president down to Assistant Chiefs. That is the only way we can contain the political tension,” said Kamau.

He urged Gen Z to use the right channel while airing out their grievances.

Additionally, a member of the Mau Mau Original Trust, Stephen Wainaina, appealed to the government to provide adequate security to their offices, which have become targets following a recent incident where they were invaded by unknown people.

“We are appealing for our security as Mau Mau veterans to be adequately provided round the clock. The recent attack on our office was uncalled for and a threat to us,” said Wainaina.

The Mau Mau fighters also want the government to fast-track their compensation process to ensure they benefit from atrocities committed to them by the British colonialists.
