Mbadi calls for coordination between National and County Governments

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has called for enhanced coordination between the National Government and County Governments to strengthen the implementation and ownership of development projects across the country.

Speaking over the weekend at Mori Primary School in Uriri Constituency, Migori County, during a women empowerment event attended by more than 1,500 women, Mbadi said development must be understood as a shared responsibility between both levels of government.

“You cannot give credit to one side without complementing the other. Projects implemented by the National Government in Migori are being done through both the National and County Governments. That is the spirit of devolution,” he told the gathering.

The CS listed several ongoing projects being implemented in Migori County through national support, among them Construction and equipping of the Piny Owacho Hospital (ongoing) in Uriri which the government committed Sh50 million.

Mbadi said the Kenya Kwanza administration was committed to equitable development in all regions of the country. “Let us tell our people that the government of today has remembered all sections of the country. We are improving the country uniformly, not selectively,” he added.

Turning to politics, the CS urged Nyanza leaders to remain firm in the broad-based government arrangement.  “We must continue with the broad-based government. We cannot gamble with politics as Luos,” he said.

Mbadi insisted that ODM leaders participating in the government would not abandon their position. “We are in government, and we cannot exit to look for another government. There is no going to the streets,” he declared.

He further emphasized that ODM’s cooperation with President William Ruto was strategic and aimed at securing long-term political stability and development for the region. “Our mission is to support President Ruto for a second term, and thereafter we seek the presidency,” he stated.

The CS also affirmed that party nominations would remain transparent and competitive, vowing that no candidate would receive a direct ticket under his watch.

The event was also attended by Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi, Migori Governor Dr Ochillo Ayacko, Uriri MP Mark Nyamita, Suna West MP Peter Masara, as well as Members of the County Assembly led by Speaker Christopher Rusana.
